OVR High Performance 2005

OVR HP webpage: www.ovr.org/juniors/hp/index.php

Program Overview

As we enter our 6th year, we've experienced a tremendous amount of success helping players move up to higher levels of play as each year a number of our athletes are making national team rosters for USA Volleyball. This is due mainly to the high level of coaching that OVR clubs are providing these players. Our purpose as a regional HP program is to identify, further train and prepare OVR top players for participation on our national teams, whether it be Youth, Junior or Women's National Teams.

Tryouts

Last year we had over 140 players attend the regional tryouts for the HPC and Youth divisions. We hope for the same this year! Each tryout participant will receive a numbered t-shirt and an evaluation of their tryout performance.

Tryout Date: Friday, April 8, 2005
Tryout Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, OH
Tryout Time: 6:30pm-9:30pm

Applications and fees must be received before Monday, March 28, 2005.

Tryout Help Needed!

In order to properly evaluate every player in a fair and consistent manner, we need a lot of help! Specifically, we need at least 2 high-level coaches per court who can fairly and accurately rate each athlete they see based upon predetermined criteria. We also need about 4 coaches per court who are athletic and physically capable of hitting balls accurately at players as well as effectivelly run drills. All tryout coaches MUST be at least IMPACT certified to participate. If you are interested, please contact me ASAP!

Teams

This year, we will have 1 HPC team and 1 Youth team. The agedefinition for these teams are as follows:

  • HPC Team: Born in/after 1990
  • Youth Team: Born in/after 1988 or 1989

These age limits are determined by USA Volleyball and cannot be changed by regional programs. There will be 12 players selected for each team. In order to be selected, players MUST attend the tryout.

Coaches

The coaches that will be working with this year's teams will be teaching players the skills and techniques used in the national team programs. Selected coaches have proven success at the club, high school and/or college level. Head coaches must be USA Volleyball CAP Level II certified and Assistant coaches must be USA Volleyball CAP Level I certified. In addition, selected coaches have demonstrated a committment to OVR athletes and are donating several weeks of their summer to be involved in this program. Head and Assistant coaches will be announced at a later date.

Training Camp

This year's training camp will be July 11-15, 2005 at a college campus site to be announced at a later date. This year we would like to offer a Coaches' Clinic on Thursday, July 14, wherein you will be able to see first-hand the training and methodologies used in our region program. We will also welcome region coaches to watch/help will practice sessions during the training camp on any day.

USAV High Performance Championships

Both the HPC and Youth teams will be participating in the 2005 USAV High Performance Championships to be held in Austin, Texas. Tournament dates are July 19-24, 2005. Logistically, July 19 and July 24 are both travel days with the tournament actually taking place July 20-23. OVR will provide transportation for the teams and coaching staffs to and from this event as well as during the tournament.

What do I do if I'm selected to be on the team?

Players chosen to be a part of this summer's HP program will pay a participation fee of $500. This fee covers the following:

  • All training camp room/board expenses July 11-15
  • All airfare expenses to/from Austin, TX
  • All hotel expenses at tournament in Austin, TX (food not included)
  • All uniform (Kaepa) expenses which include a travel bag, shoes, knee pads, warm-up suit, 2 jerseys, socks, and 2 pair of shorts.
